|About the Author...
BUSKER - Tales of a Renegade Harpist is the author's first book and the first full-length memoir on the life of a busker.
David Michael has previously been known primarily for his musical talents -- as a prolific composer, international performer, producer and recording artist. As a multi-instrumentalist and ethno-musicologist, he is a pioneer of World Fusion music and is passionately involved in the creation of eclectic new styles that build on the common ground between the traditions from many lands.
David has long championed the busking profession and has enjoyed a decades-long career busking in numerous countries. He is perhaps best known for his seventeen-year run busking on the ferryboat between Port Townsend and Whidbey Island in Washington State where he played to about 50,000 people a year. Part of his mission in writing BUSKER was to glorify the lifestyle and freedom of buskers everywhere.
David has released over twenty CDs of his original music and has also produced custom scores for award winning nature films. The stunning natural beauty of his beloved Pacific Northwest has been a tremendous inspiration to him in the creation of his compositions.
As a writer, he has penned articles and travelogues for publications such as International Folk Harp Journal and Victory Review, though his writing skills have mostly been employed for press releases and liner notes found in the many CDs released by his independent label Purnima Productions. Purnima Press is a subsidiary of his record company.
David holds a B.A. from The Evergreen State College and an M.A. degree in Arts and Media Technology from Antioch University West.
